Sean,
I have a few charge offs. Are you saying that unless the creditor has no information on the acct, that there is no way for the charge off to be taken off? I have called the creditors and offered to pay the collection agencies in full in return for a better reporting status than "paid Collection", even something neutral like "paid" or "satisfied". They state that even if I pay, they cannot and will not report it in any other way than "paid Charge off". When I call, they have the info on the account, the charge off date, amount, etc. They just refuse to discuss the account with me and refer me to the collection agency. These are small amounts, 5 charge offs totaling $3,000, the smallest being $200, the largest $975. And they are only around 8 to 9 months old. I ordered my credit report on-line from equifax. I'm thinking this is not the credit report that creditors see. It's just the "here, pacify yourself" version. None of the collection agencies appear. Only the original creditor's charge-offs. I am so confused over this. I'm about to just say screw it, and pay the agencies, but I don't want to screw myself twice. These are credit card charge-offs from a divorce. I owe the money and I will pay, I just want to salvage anything if I can. I'm 26, back home, and I need to rebuild my life. I don't know what to do. It's commendable that you, Christine and all others take the time out of your lives to do this. It means alot.
