I did call the Rent Dispute line in San Jose. Here is what they told me:
- There is no rent control in San Jose for single family houses.
- The rent regulation in San Jose only applies to 3-plex or more that were built before 1979.
- For those under regulation, yearly rent increase is 8% max, and 21% max if the rent has not been increased in two years.
