In Reply to: TRW ordered my credit report provider to shut off my account -- I can no longer order credit reports posted by Christine Baker on December 10, 1997 at 17:40:06:

On Friday I finally got a call back from Experian (TRW.)

It wasn't from the Compliance Division, but from Kenny Still, Account Executive in the Specialized Services Division. He's in charge of credit re-sellers such as the companies who provide credit reports for mortgage and real estate brokers.

I told him that I would comply with whatever they required. He replied that I would never again receive Experian credit reports because I was associated with credit counseling.

He assured me that a real estate or mortgage broker who gives a copy of the credit report to his clients does NOT violate any of their regulations.

He refused to put his statements in writing, as they only have a contract with the company that provided my reports.

When I wanted to confirm the spelling of his name, he was very silent for a while. Then he remarked that he was aware that I was very active on the internet and he did not want his name published.

Well, we all want one thing or another. I'd like Experian credit reports and Mr. Still won't give them to me. So why should Mr. Still get his wish?

Experian is a monopoly. I can never work as a mortgage broker again. Is it appropriate to allow a company like Experian to have that much power?

Fortunately, I wasn't too surprised by Experian's move. I never got a response to my letter to Experian, linked at the Credit Dispute Documentary at http://www.bayhouse.com/bk-credit.html

I'd say there is a 99.9 % chance that this letter caused Experian to shut me off.

That's the type of censorship practiced in the US on a daily basis. You publicly ask some questions, next thing you know, you're out of business.

Experian also doesn't benefit from my other credit pages. I urge consumers not to allow creditors to access their credit as it lowers their Credit Scores. Experian sells these reports.

If the word really got out, Experian could expect to suffer substantial losses.

I urge consumers to dispute incorrect data AND to have added omitted data, increasing Experian's costs.

It all makes sense ....

-Christine

PS: I'm returning the checks I got for reports to the senders. Sorry for the inconvenience!
