I have seen advice given about charge offs and paying them.
The general consensus seems to be don't pay them unless you can get
the original creditor to report the charge off as paid or remove
it entirely. The accounts have since gone to collections who say
they'll report it to the original creditor as paid chrge off-bad.
The creditors say that they cannot and will not report it in any
other way than "paid charge off", as this would be against thier
policy and/or illegal. They won't take payment in full either,
they just refer me to the collection agency and refuse to discuss
the account. If they sold the acct to an agency, they've
allready received whatever payment they expect to get. So why
would they take the time and effort to report it as paid if they
don't have the account anymore. I can pay these debts in full
now but is it worth it? They are only 6 to 8 months old since
charge off. I have been on the phone driving myself to insanity
with these people. Can anyone help?
