I have been given a rent increase. The problem with this increase is not the amount, but the timing of it. This is the second year in a row my landlord has increased my rent on a single family home. That is not the problem either. The problem is that he writes the notice on the 8th of October in 1996 and 1997, and has it delivered to me via registered mail where I receive it on the 11th of October. The rent increase is effective on the 1st of November. I do have a problem with the timing since it does cause a short term financial burden. I budget our household expenses in advance. What is the law, and what can I do about it? I do have a real good landlord/tenant relationship.
