Just a little confused

My wife and I were married in Sep 1996. She had one Visa with First Union. We opened a checking with FU in December of 1996. In April of 1997 we were informed by FU that the Visa was sold to MBNA, why we do not know. We were carrying a $5,000 balance at 16% (I know). Immediately after we were informed of this MBNA reported lates to Equifax for the months of Feb and March. They did not own this account during that time frame. First Union reported nothing. To make matters
worse, my wife ordered me a card for this account as an AU - authorized user. What I didn't realize until AFTER the fact was the false lates are now reported on my credit by MBNA!

There are 2 issues here:

1. MBNA reported false information about an account they didn't own.

2. I have false information in my credit report regarding an account I don't own.

Any advice on getting this resolved?

P.S. Great web page, I have been following it since early 1996 and it has been very helpful in our pursuit of a house.
