: : I have changed car insurance companies last week, today I was called and told my car insurance will double do to my poor credit. I have a perfect driving record. Here's the kicker, I Never was told or signed ANYTHING saying they could look at my credit... I know what my credit is and have been working on improving it. I did not need or want an inqury on my report...

: : PLEASE HELP, I AM MAD AS HELL

: I hate to tell you this but you pretty much have to bend over and take it. Insurance companies assume that if your credit isn't spotless you'll be out there smacking your car into anything you can find and filing lots of false claims to pay off your bills. After all, in their eyes, poor credit = criminal.

: The FCRA basically states that any business can check your credit without your permission if they have a valid business reason to complete a transaction you initiated. For example, the FTC has ruled that taking a car for a test drive constitues initiation of a business transaction and a dealer can pull a credit report based on a test drive.

: The only time your signature is required to release a credit report now is in the case of your employer or a potential employer.

Sorry, the test drive example was in error. That's what happens when you check sources after you submit the response. I hate being wrong.

By switching your insurance, you did clearly initiate a transaction.
