Q: How long does information stay on the credit report?
A: Potentially negative information is removed 7 years from the initial missed payment that led to the delinquency. Missed payments and most public record items remain on the credit report for 7 years, except Chapter 7, 11 and 12 bankruptcies, which remain for 10 years, and unpaid tax liens, which remain for 15 years. A paid tax lien will remain for 7 years.

Q: How long does information stay on the credit report?
A: Experian stores information from credit grantors and public records, including bankruptcies, judgments and liens. Missed payments and most public record items remain on the credit report for 7 years, with the exception of Chapter 7, 11 and 12 bankruptcies, which remain for 10 years, and unpaid tax liens, which remain for 15 years. A paid tax lien will remain for 7 years. Positive information may remain on the report indefinitely, although generally is displayed for seven years. The credit report also lists all inquiries. Inquiries remain on the credit report for 2 years.

Q: What does a "paid collection account" appearing on the credit report mean?
A: A "paid collection account" means that the account is paid, but the credit grantor had sent the account to an internal collection department, had hired an attorney or had contracted with a collection agency to collect the payments. This information will remain on the credit report for 7 years from the initial missed payment that led to the collection.
